The Exercise Health Sciences program is a rigorous academic curriculum designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the scientific and psychological foundations of movement, exercise and sport. Students in the EHS program receive skilled instruction in cardiovascular and strength training, health appraisals and fitness assessments, exercise prescription, behavior modification, sport nutrition, equipment use and function, exercise psychology and safety as well as wellness concepts which include smoking cessation, stress management, physical activity and weight control. Students will receive practical hands on experiences in our on-site health and wellness education center, so you’ll feel comfortable and prepared to go out and actually do your work when you graduate or go on to pursue an advanced degree or national certification offered by the American College of Sports Medicine. The well-coached achievement of optimal health remains a worldwide priority in the twenty-first century. The growing fields of movement and exercise sciences promise increasing opportunities for movement practitioners in the field of Kinesiology. The primary role of a movement practitioner is to act as an educator and assist others with behavior modification that positively impacts both the individual and the society we live in. If you want to facilitate individuals to reach their fullest potential, Exercise Health Sciences is the field for you. These classes transfer to several four-year schools in Colorado.
Course sequence does apply, It is recommended that students seek advising from the program coordinator, Sophie Mabry (sophie.mabry@arapahoe.edu) to ensure success in the classroom and transferability of classes to four year schools. Students new to the program need to attend a new student EHS meeting prior to the first day of class. Email the program coordinator for dates.

Admission Requirements
- Admission to Arapahoe Community College
- Prerequisite:CCR 092 (or higher) or equivalent and MAT 050 /MAT 055 or equivalent
- Program approval is required in order to transfer in exercise health science classes credit from other institutions
- Attending a new student meeting specific to the EHS program is required of all new and perspective students in the EHS program. Email the program coordinator for dates and times
- Successful results of a criminal background check is required by the first day of specified classes
- Specific course sequences and prerequisites apply.
- The Exercise Health Sciences program expects all students in the EHS program to have access to a computer with Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
- Required materials include: jump drive, calculator capable of 10 decimal points, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, stop watch, cell phone with Skype and conference call ability, and professional exercise attire, as stated in the new student program meeting.

Graduation Requirements
- All major, general education and other courses required for the degree must be completed with a grade of “C” (70%) or better.
- Pass the National certification exam through the American College of Sports Medicine. See EHS Coordinator for more information on the current certifications available to students at the time of graduation.
- National certification in American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED, Blood-Borne Pathogens and Responding to Emergencies.
- To graduate, students must apply for graduation and complete the graduation survey (available via myACC). (form available at www.arapahoe.edu/graduation)
- After applying for graduation, all correspondence to a student about the status of their program conferral will be sent to their student email address only.
- As a graduate of a Career and Technical Education program you will be contacted by an ACC employee in approximately six months to verify your employment information. This information gathering is a federal requirement to ensure that ACC receives certain federal funding.
